Inperspective Records
Feature: Inperspective Records
London based Chris of Inperspective has one thing in mind, to put his label in the " forefront of this new atmospheric, or as I prefer "progressive" D&B". He is certainly making the right moves with his Inperspective imprint going strong with a healthy roster of established and up and coming artists. Coupled with a monthly Inperspective "Technicality" Night turning heads in the scene on its debut in October, we had to speak to the man ...
What's the story behind Inperspective, how did thing get started?
It all started back in 1996 after a lengthy conversation about the music at the time with Equinox. We were sick of hearing crap D&B out so I decided to put out some tracks by him under "Tek Unlimited". We couldn't get a distributor as the ED Rush Optical thing started coming in and no one wanted to hear breaks anymore so we were fucked basically. Left it for a few years, regrouped and sorted my life out a bit. Then in 1999 I wanted to start up the label again. Through a mad turn of events, I hooked up with ASC and from there met with loads of Artists and DJ's. Some well-known artists and the rest were new guys. It just progressed from there to where I am today. Sometimes it seems hard when no one wants to know you because your not as known as others, but time has told me that if you keep plugging, things will always improve and your point of view will get out there
How many artists do you currently work with?
Equinox - The beat scientist! My best mate and one of the most talented artists around, Reinforced know this, he's just been signed to them!!! ASC A Future thinker! What can I can say about this boy that everybody doesn't know already, a true innovator in this new progressive D&B scene. Senses - Breakage Personified, I'm so pleased that this guy got in touch with me, he just rang me up out of the blue one night, sent me down "The Touch" and hasn't looked back since. His music is what Inperspective Records is all about he's become a good friend of mine. Pariah - The Future's not set, need I say more, just ask Blame, Tricksta and Bukem!! Ochre - Chilled out Audio - I don't think they're recording together any more, which is a shame, but that makes their release more special. Multistage - The Second Face! Can't say any more than that at the moment!!
What feedback have you had with current releases?
Well too many comments to mention here but a lot of people have come back with some really positive comments. Dev Paradox, Blame, PHD and the Intense boys to name a few have been really into what we're doing. The music press have been really cool too with Knowledge, 7 magazine and others hailing Inperspective Records as the way forward, that's really nice to hear. There are also online features on Lexicon and Dubfly

What the distribution situation like?
Well our distribution is world wide so I hope it gets stateside (it better, or some isn't doing their job properly!) Seriously though, the guys at Nu Urban Music have been excellent and have got the tunes out everywhere!!!
As well as running the label what other projects are you involved in?
Along side the label we have extended things and have setup a Monthly Night "Technicality" at Herbal which started in October, and continues on the first Wed of every month, check this site for details. There are plans for taking this on tour too, we will keep you informed.
What's the focus for Inperspective for the future?
really want to keep pushing this great music of ours forward, I believe that D&B still has so much more to offer, and with what GLR and others have achieved so far I know that Inperspective can reach the highest heights in progressive D&B. I want people to get back to the breaks, there has been too much two-step going on and it's getting boring. There are loads of people out there who agree with me so I know it's possible to get my point of view heard. I also with my partner in crime Dphie, run replicant audio. Which deals with the more harder edged stuff, which the likes of Danny C, Alpha Omega and Vector Burn push that sound forward too. Look out for RA in the near future.
